Prairie Star Kimono Coat- Laura

This Prairie Star Kimono Coat features a light weight antique quilt circa 1930s, that was hand pieced and quilted in the ever popular "Wedding Ring" pattern. The quilting stitches and patterns are some of the most intricate that I have ever seen.  This sweet kimono style is slightly oversized and shorter in length. The sleeves are slightly flared, and I added some lovely slanted pockets.

The quilt I used for this coat was very distressed. I did a bit of mending as needed, but for the most part, left most of it distressed because I felt like it was appropriate and really adds to the charm and character of this particular jacket. And it makes for an amazing "Shabby Chic" jacket. Antique and vintage quilts that I use range in age from 50 to 100 years old. Each one is unique in character. These beautiful works of art may have signs of wear, slight stains, or fabric degradation in some of the quilt blocks. These things are not viewed as flaws, but rather giving the quilt's character and showing it's history. I do best to photograph each item to reflect its character and condition.

Measurements (taken flat across) - due to the slightly oversized fit, this can accommodate a range of sizes - it is best to measure a kimono you already own:

Chest (armpit to armpit): 27.5"

Length (top of the shoulder to bottom hem): 25.5"

Sleeve (armpit to sleeve hem): 14"

Arm length (against the collar to sleeve opening): 24.5"

For reference, model is five feet one inch tall, and wears a US size 12/14 or size LG-XL.
